Want to really beef up your Trident? This adds significant, beautiful, mass to your printer while ensuring Z motor alignment through the end of time (well, at least some point at a much later time.)

We sourced some heavy steel, it just felt way better than aluminum, and is sure to make you sound like Tim the Toolman Taylor when you pick it up to put on your Trident.

Only warning, if you have inverted electronics mod, this won’t be good for that.

What?

Backbone is a Voron Trident mod that replaces the three printed Z motor mounts with a single plate.

Why?

To try to keep all three Z motors mounted and aligned on the same plane or as close as possible. Also, to prevent any of the Z motors, but especially the rear one, from sagging/tilting.

How?

It’s possible to install Backbone without completely disassembling your Trident. More detailed instructions will be provided later, but the idea is:

• temporarily remove all 3 Z motors from Trident
• uninstall stock printed Z motor mounts and any printed wire guide parts, including the Z chain anchor
• loosen or remove the rear Z rail
• slide the Backbone in from the side, angled with the front edge tilted down into the corner
• carefully ensure none of the Z chain, A/B motor wire, or gantry harness wiring is pinched and that all wires are routed into the wiring gaps
• secure Backbone into place using M5 bolts in the same locations as the printed parts
• reinstall all 3 Z motors, one at a time, and using M3x6 or M3x8 bolts, secure them to Backbone
